Duplex Stainless Steel Gate Valve F51 2" 2500LB

Product Introduction

This duplex stainless steel high pressure gate valve is manufactured from ASTM A182 F51 (UNS S31803, 1.4462) duplex stainless steel, combining the strength of ferritic stainless steel with the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel. The 2-inch Class 2500LB pressure seal bonnet design delivers exceptional performance in corrosive high-pressure environments where standard carbon steel and 316 stainless steel valves fail prematurely. The duplex microstructure provides outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking (CSCC). Ideal for seawater injection systems, offshore platform topside piping, chemical processing with chlorinated media, desalination plants, and subsea production equipment.

Key Features & Characteristics

  • Duplex Stainless Steel F51 Metallurgy: The balanced austenite-ferrite microstructure (approximately 50/50) delivers twice the yield strength of standard 316 stainless steel while providing superior chloride corrosion resistance. PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) of 33-35 ensures excellent resistance to pitting in seawater and chloride-containing environments.
  • Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking Immunity: Unlike austenitic 316 SS which is highly susceptible to CSCC above 60°C in chloride environments, duplex F51 is virtually immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking, making it the material of choice for hot seawater and brine services.
  • Pressure Seal Bonnet with Duplex Materials: All pressure-containing components including body, bonnet, and pressure seal gasket retainer are manufactured from F51 duplex material, ensuring complete corrosion resistance throughout the assembly.
  • High Strength, Lower Weight: The high yield strength of duplex F51 (≥450 MPa minimum) allows thinner wall sections than 316 SS for the same pressure rating, resulting in lighter weight valves that reduce piping support requirements.
  • Stellite Hardfaced Trim: Stellite 6 hardfacing on seating surfaces provides galling resistance that duplex stainless steels alone cannot achieve, preventing seizing during operation in high-pressure differential conditions.
  • Ferrite Content Verified: Every heat of duplex material is verified for ferrite content (35-55% target) per ASTM E562 by point count method, ensuring correct phase balance for optimal corrosion and mechanical properties.

Why Choose Us

  • Specialist Duplex Manufacturing: We maintain dedicated tooling, machining parameters, and welding procedures specifically for duplex and super duplex stainless steels, preventing contamination from carbon steel processing.
  • Complete Material Traceability: Full EN 10204 3.2 material certification including chemical analysis (with PREN calculation), mechanical properties (tensile, yield, elongation, hardness), Charpy impact at -46°C, ferrite content, and intergranular corrosion test per ASTM A923 Method C.
  • NORSOK M-650 Qualification: Our duplex valve materials and manufacturing processes are qualified to NORSOK M-650 standards, meeting the stringent requirements of Norwegian offshore oil and gas operators.
  • PMI Verification: Every duplex valve undergoes Positive Material Identification using XRF analysis to verify correct alloy chemistry, eliminating the risk of material mix-up with standard stainless steel grades.

FAQ

Q: When should we specify duplex F51 instead of 316 stainless steel?
A: Specify F51 duplex when your application involves: (1) seawater or brackish water above 25°C where 316 SS will pit, (2) any chloride-containing environment above 60°C where 316 SS risks CSCC failure, (3) high-pressure systems where F51's higher strength allows lighter valve weight, or (4) environments requiring both corrosion resistance and erosion resistance due to the higher hardness of duplex materials. The PREN of F51 (33-35) vs 316 SS (24-26) quantifies this improved chloride resistance.

Q: Are duplex valves suitable for subsea applications?
A: Yes, our F51 duplex gate valves are suitable for shallow water subsea applications. For deep water (>300m) subsea, we recommend super duplex F55 (UNS S32760, PREN > 40) for enhanced pitting resistance at depth. Full hyperbaric testing capability is available for subsea qualification programs.

Q: What special welding procedures are required for field installation of butt weld ends?
A: Duplex stainless steels require controlled heat input (0.5-2.5 kJ/mm), interpass temperature control (maximum 150°C), and proper filler metal selection (ER2209 for F51). We provide detailed WPS documentation and can supply weld procedure qualification coupons for your field welding contractor qualification.
