Corrosion resistant sand service choke valve

The CCSC tungsten carbide trim adjustable choke valve is built for the most demanding abrasive and corrosive flow control duties in oil and gas production. Wells producing sand, frac backflow fluids, scale particles or sour gas quickly destroy conventional steel trims, so this valve is fitted with solid tungsten carbide needle, seat and flow bean components that resist erosion even when fluid velocity through the restriction is extremely high. The forged body and bonnet are manufactured in accordance with API 6A, and the trim metallurgy can be matched to NACE MR0175 requirements for hydrogen sulphide service.

Tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials used in production equipment, and it keeps a stable flow coefficient over long periods because the restriction geometry does not wash out. This predictable performance is critical for choke manifold operation, where an eroded choke silently changes the flow rate and can compromise the well test data or allow a well to produce above its safe limit. The CCSC design keeps the carbide components simple to replace, so the valve can be re-trimmed quickly between wells with different sand production characteristics.

Key Features
  • Solid tungsten carbide trim: needle, seat and flow bean manufactured from high density carbide for maximum erosion resistance.
  • Abrasive service capability: engineered for sand laden production, frac flowback and high velocity gas with entrained solids.
  • Sour service option: material classes up to FF with NACE MR0175 compliant body and trim materials for H2S environments.
  • Stable flow characteristics: erosion resistant geometry keeps the flow coefficient constant for dependable rate control.
  • Forged high strength body: alloy or stainless steel forging provides pressure integrity up to 15,000 psi working pressure.
  • Quick re-trim design: needle and seat assembly can be exchanged in the field to restore the valve to new condition.
  • Full traceability: material certificates and hardness records supplied for all pressure containing and wetted parts.

Applications

The tungsten carbide trim choke valve is applied wherever solids or corrosive agents threaten conventional equipment: sand producing oil wells, hydraulic fracturing flowback manifolds, gas wells with formation sand, coal seam gas production, geothermal wells and acid stimulation returns. It is also the preferred choice for downhole safety related surface equipment in sour fields, where the combination of H2S and high velocity flow would otherwise cause rapid sulphide stress cracking and erosion damage. Operators use the valve on choke manifolds, test separators, production headers and injection systems that handle dirty or corrosive media.

Packaging & Quality Assurance

CCSC subjects every tungsten carbide trim choke valve to shell and seat pressure testing together with dimensional verification of the carbide components against the drawing requirements. Carbide quality is controlled through density and hardness checks, and the complete trim set is documented with serial numbers for future replacement orders. The finished valve is cleaned, inhibited and packed in a reinforced plywood export crate with the trim protected by internal packaging. Full documentation covering material certificates, NACE compliance where required, test reports and operating instructions is supplied with each delivery.
